Social networking - impacts

“Generation Y”, born before the Web, is more technology-savvy than any previous generation – they have grown up with permanent connectivity and extensive use of collaborative on-line environments and seem to have few concerns about security and privacy issues that keep company’s CISO’s awake at night.

This leads to a conflict of interest – as Generation Y enters a professional career path, bringing along their culture of open collaboration and vanishing borders between private and professional lives, they are bound to clash with corporate rules, encoded in existing processes, guidelines and governance.

Companies are therefore faced with the challenge to maintain an appropriate risk and security posture, while understanding the change in their employee’s or customer’s usage behaviour and being attractive to Generation Y.
