OSIRIS project - Towards an Open and Sustainable ICT Research Infrastructure Strategy

Baiba Kaskina, Bruno Martuzans, Katrina Sataki - Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science, University of Latvia (IMCS UL)

The main aim of the OSIRIS project initiative is to build the platform, mechanism and models required to secure efficient involvement of Member States, Associated Countries and regions into development of the cross border public-public partnership and to establish a coordinated approach to future large scale investments in transnational European ICT Research Infrastructures. Research infrastructures (RIs) are facilities, resources and related services used by the scientific community to conduct top-level research in their respective fields. OSIRIS main target areas are Grid and Networks, High Performance Computing, Micro/Nanoelectronics and Future Internet. The main component of the first target area is the GÉANT network. OSIRIS project started in January 2010. Until the TNC the main project definitions will be set and a survey - the basis for a qualitative analysis of current challenges regarding research infrastructures faced by the stakeholders - will be initiated. OSIRIS poster visibility at the TNC would be very important to raise awareness of the NREN community and to ensure its participation in the OSIRIS survey and working groups. The poster highlights the goals of OSIRIS and feature expected NREN involvement.
