100-Gb/s Transport – A Reality Check

Abstract: This paper analyzes drivers and solutions for 100-Gb/s transport. Key aspects include cost, transmission performance, risk, and energy efficiency. We conclude that two different solutions with different performance and significantly different cost are necessary in order to allow cost optimization and thus support the roll-out of 100-Gb/s transport.
