Jamie Shiers has been involved in LHC computing for many years: from 1995 until 1999 he led an R&D project aimed at investigating persistency mechanisms for the LHC experiments. From 2000 until 2004 he led the Database group in CERN's IT department and contributed to the design of the database systems required for LHC computing. From 2005 on he has focussed on service aspects of Grid computing and now leads the Experiment Support group (previously Grid Support group) at CERN.
